How Does Social Media Influences Our Food Choices?

ree

Being on social media has become a normal routine for most. We scroll to network, connect with others with similar interests, get laughs, and inspiration. How often does it impact your lifestyle choices with foods?

For starters, It has increased our visibility of different food choices. We have more access than ever to a variety of healthy foods and diets that could benefit us in our health journey! Whenever I travel to another city, state, or country one of the things I enjoy doing is checking out what that place has to offer when it comes to food and researching on media helps at times.

Influencers play a role with food choices. They have the ability to shape our decisions by encouraging us to try certain foods. These platforms made it easier to make informed and cost-effective decisions. However, in all things the benefits we reap in our choices are conditional.

Just because we have access to this wealth of information doesn’t mean it’ll just fall into our laps so how can we curate a healthy feed?

In order to find content that’s meaningful to you and promotes wellness here are some tips:

-Limit your time on social media. Focus on activities that bring you joy or challenge you. You’d be surprised how inspired you’ll become when you allow yourself to be present in the moment by journaling or taking walks outside.

-Follow accounts that inspire you. Look for accounts that focus on topics that you find interesting and inspiring.

-Do a social detox. It’s healthy to take breaks and figure out your ‘whys’ like why you follow this page? Is it adding value? Do I compare myself to where they are in their relationship to food? After you do a self assessment then it's time for page cleanup.

Social media can positively impact your food choices but a part of your journey into wellness is finding what’s meaningful and inspirational to you.
