Is your hair struggling to thrive despite having a consistent hair-care routine?

Sometimes, healthy hair care requires us to look beyond the products sitting on our bathroom shelf.

Your scalp and hair follicles are part of a living biological system. Nutrition, stress, overall health, and your body’s inflammatory response can all be part of the bigger picture when you’re trying to understand changes in your hair.

That doesn’t mean inflammation is automatically the cause of hair thinning or hair loss. Hair changes can have many causes, so persistent or concerning changes should be evaluated by an appropriate healthcare professional.

What Is Inflammation—and Why Does It Matter for Hair?

Inflammation is part of the body's normal immune response. It becomes important when inflammatory processes are persistent or dysregulated. Because hair follicles are living biological structures, changes in the body's internal environment may be relevant when we're trying to understand changes in hair health.

This give us an important question to consider:

Could your overall approach to wellness be supporting your hair health?

Here are three simple places to start.

1. Build One Anti-Inflammatory Plate Each Day

Start with one nourishing plate each day.

Consider including foods such as:

  • Wild salmon

  • Berries

  • Colorful vegetables

The goal isn't to find one “hair-growth food.” It's to build an overall pattern of eating that supports your body's overall health.

2. Pay Attention to Your Stress and Scalp

Hair health isn't only about what you put on your strands.

Your scalp is living skin, and your hair follicles are biological structures. That's why it's worth paying attention to what's happening both externally and internally.

3. Don't Let Hair Products Be Your Only Strategy

As a cosmetic chemist, I believe in well-formulated hair care.

The right products can help you cleanse, condition, moisturize, protect, and care for your hair and scalp.

But topical products are only one piece of the picture.

This is what holistic hair stewardship can look like—caring for your crown while also caring for the body God entrusted to you. A Biblical Perspective on Caring for Your Body

In this week's Crown Care for Healthy Hair podcast episode, I take a deeper look at the relationship between inflammation, nutrition, stress, insulin, scalp health, and your hair follicles.
